Samsung claims their new color laser printer are the smallest ever. More importantly, they offer improved features. The CLP-315K, which is 20% smaller than the older CLP-300, has a 2,400 x 600 dpi resolution and 32MB of internal memory and prints 16 ppm black and white and 4ppm color.

The CLX-3175FNK, an all in one laser color printer with a build-in fax/scanner. It is 40% smaller than the previous model and can also print from a USB directly.

2010: D-day for the Internet as it hits "full capacity"?

According to Yahoo! Tech AT&T is saying that without substantial investment in network infrastructure, the Internet will essentially run out of bandwidth in just two short years. The massive rise of DSL and cable modem service in recent years has had AT&T facing a monstrous increase in the volume of data transmissions. And that's set to increase another 50 times between now and 2015. That's enough, says AT&T, to all but crash the system. So it's investing $19 billion to upgrade the backbone of the Internet, the routers, servers, and connections where the bulk of traffic is processed.

AT&T says video alone will eat up 80% of traffic in two years vs. just 30% now thought that makes you wonder how YouTube doesn't collapse under the pressure.

Kindle boosts tiny e-book market

Per USA Today, Amazon's Kindle, which was intro'd around Thanksgiving last year, has helped, if not revolutionized, the ebook market. Publishing officials are reluctant to discuss sales figures, but say that they have seen double digit increases in e-book sales since the Kindle's release, including renewed interest in downloads on the Sony Reader. Sales for the most popular books are in the hundreds, comparable to the number for the Sony, which came out in 2006.

While the ebook market has been growing - sales have risen steadily over the past six years, from around $6 million in 2002 to around $33 million in 2007 - it is still less than 1% of the $35 billion publishing business and likely to remain so.

Prototype Android touch phone in BBC video

From Electronista - A new, previously unspecified phone running Google's Android mobile OS is featured in anew BBC video. The British news organization was told that the early, prototype device was manufactured by one of Google's partners in the project and veers away from the button-driven form previously seen. The mystery device is almost entirely driven by a touchscreen and includes just a minimal set of physical controls for taking calls and jumping to familiar hotspots in the interface, such as the home screen. The report also confirms that Google's current touch technology does not implement multi-touch gestures.

Cell Phone Spy Extracts Deleted Texts, Data

BrickHouse Security sells a small, portable SIM card reader that it says retrieves deleted messages. Users can remove a SIM card, put it in the $150 Cell Phone Spy, and plug the reader into a USB port. The data transfers to PCs. The company claims its reader is the only one that can access deleted messages.

The device doesn't work with phones that lack SIM cards.
