GPhone Is 10% Cheaper To Build Than 8G IPhone 3G

Per CNN Money, an iSuppli study has determined the G1, made by HTC Corp of Taiwan, costs only $144 as compared the 8G iPhone 3G's estimated $160 bill of materials (previously estimated at $174.33). The difference is attributed to the G1's not having a multi-touch display nor as much memory.

And while iSuppli is well-known for physically tearing down the units it analyzes, it did not conduct an actual teardown of the G1. The study also included only component and material costs and not software, research and development or manufacturing costs,
